Daily Tarot::8 of Knives

Being that my Jupiter is in Gemini, I thought today’s card appropriate.

Tarot of Vampyres

Jupiter is the planet of luck, expansion, growth and optimism. A “jovial” planet if there ever was one! Here the placement of Gemini is considered “detrimental”, as Jupiter normally governs Sagittarius – which sits directly opposite Gemini on the Zodiac wheel.

This presents a challenge in that one may have to work harder at not allowing themselves to get caught in an endless cycle of indecision. Astrologically, those born with Jupiter in Gemini are curious, restless, and can appear a bit scattered. They are often avid readers of history, philosophy, and world cultures.

Here’s another one of those “chimeras” seen in the Tarot of Vampyres deck. Are we seeing a demon, a vampyre, or the Horned God? Check out those ears – an homage to Pan?

Known as the Lord of Shortened Force, the 8 of Swords is aligned to Jupiter in Gemini. It speaks of worry, over-thinking, indecision or confusion, and restriction.

MY eyes were immediately drawn to the downward-facing dagger (adorned with the symbol for Jupiter) deftly concealing his private parts… (or maybe I’m just impatiently awaiting the All Male Review here in Placerville)

Kayso, this hunky guy is chained to a post that’s smack dab in the middle of some noxious pond. I say pond because the water lilies floating about would normally be found in ponds – as opposed to bogs, swamps, lakes, or the open sea. Two more posts have also been erected in the water (the symbol for Gemini etched in one) with the skeletal remains of other (not so lucky) chained  horny  horned figures. Flying amidst the green fog are Crows, totem animal for the suit of Knives. It also appears the Sun is trying its best to break through the stifling haze.

adv.  in a clever way

Daily Tarot::The World

Tarot of Vampyres

Image © Ian Daniels

Saturn is the Planet of Karma – the taskmaster of the Zodiac – and here is linked to Capricorn. It governs old age and the passage of time. Saturn’s role is a teacher whose job is educating us in life’s lessons.

Also called The Universe in some decks, the exotic performer represented in The World is surrounded by three of the four totem animals:  Wolf (Pentacles), Crow (Swords), and Black Panther (Wands). She dances with the fourth, a Serpent (Cups).

Like The Fool whose journey ends with this card, this beautiful woman is a newly-born Vampyre, as evidenced by the bloody fang marks on her neck. Were they inflicted by the serpent she holds? Maybe the red on its snout isn’t blood, but the blood-red lipstick worn by the dancer…

Also called The Great One of the Night of Time, The World is ruled by Saturn and symbolizes the end of one cycle and the beginning of another, discovering our true self and our purpose, and self-identity.

Having been recently inducted into the Court of the Undead, she’s ready to begin her journey through the Minor Arcana. But not just yet. Today she’s performing solo on her own World Stage; swaying to music only she can hear and dancing for no reason other than her own pleasure. Reveling in her individuality, her independence, her individuation.

n.  the process by which an individual becomes distinct, and
uniquely themselves

Daily Tarot::10 of Grails

Tarot of Vampyres

Image © Ian Daniels

The 10 of Grails (Cups) is aligned with Mars in Pisces, symbolized here by the two symbols etched into the cup she’s holding.

Mars is the planet of energy, action, and desire. Pisces represents the search for life’s meaning, and the path to happiness and fulfillment. We are talking a spiritual warrior…

The chalice is filled with Life’s Blood, which the Vampyress has sampled – and apparently is in the throes of ecstasy as a result. Is she dreaming of her Vampyre Prince?

I’d rather this princess channel her Inner Warrior – quit the daydreaming and go hunt him down! On a positive note, I rather like the subdued hues (especially her dewy eye shadow).

As the Lord of Perfected Success, the 10 of Cups represents an end to emotional tensions or conflicts, internal bliss, self-realization, and spiritual awakening.

Happy Saint Gertrude of Nivelles Day ~ 2018!

The assignment of Gertrude as patron of cats and the designation of the cat as one of her attributes seems to date from the 1980s… A more superficial association of Gertrude with the cat as a mouse hunter goes further back. Her veneration as protector against rats and mice dates from the early 15th century and spread from Southwestern Germany to the Netherlands and Catalonia. 20th-century folkloristic research associated her with the Germanic goddess Frigg, who may have been depicted riding a cat… The first major English-language publication presenting her as patron of the cats is a 1981 Catalogue of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Since the late 1990s her veneration has spread over the internet.”  link
