Another FUCK YOU Award has been issued

Whatever you may (or may not) think of Colin Kaepernick, it’s FUCKING BULLSHIT blocking a commercial depicting peace, compassion, and reverence for life. (Perhaps they should’ve included some gratuitous sex and/or violence.)

From PETA:

…this project pays homage to all movements that remind us to open our hearts and minds and reject all forms of injustice, including sexism, ableism, racism, ageism, homophobia, and speciesism.

I HAD planned to watch the game on Sunday,
but instead would like to give the NFL and FOX a well-deserved

Gallerie::Animal Outreach (1.28.2020)

Animal Outreach of the Motherlode is a non-profit, no-kill shelter for cats. It’s located just outside of Placerville in Diamond Springs, CA; and I am very happy to be a part of their volunteer staff! The facility is wonderful and the “cattery” is a bright, open space with plenty of spaces to climb to, to hide away for a quick nap, or to just play around in.

Every week I’m introduced to new cats. Our turnaround is great and we see few (if any) returned pets. This is wonderful and speaks to the efforts of every single person working and volunteering here.

Ace of Swords, Six of Pentacles, Nine of Wands

A word about Aces. They are the power players in a spread and represent beginnings, opportunities, potential, and emerging trends epitomized by the qualities of their suit.

You’ll notice that I’ve separated the first two cards from the third one. The Ace of Knives (Swords) and Six of Skulls (Pentacles) address a problem, issue, or obstacle – while the Nine of Scepters symbolizes the Querent.

The suit of Swords symbolizes thought, mental processes, intellect, logic, and objectivity. Astrologically Swords are linked to the Air signs (Libra, Aquarius, and Gemini).

Swords penetrate to the heart of a matter, cutting through to the truth. The Ace of Knives foretells an “Ah ha” moment of clarity that gives rise to a resolution (or improvement) to a situation or circumstance. Together with the Six of Skulls, the outcome will create a sense of well-being for the Querent. A blessing.

“They broke the wrong parts of me. They broke my wings and forgot I had claws.” – Unknown

The Nine of Scepters signifies inner strength, great power, unshakable resolve, transformation, and adaptability.

Reflecting on yesterday’s tragedy

By now most of you have heard about the tragic death of former NBA star Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and seven other passengers. I became a basketball aficionado pretty recently so I never saw Kobe play, but I do know that he ranks among the top NBA players EVER. What I do remember is that Kobe – along with Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, and Michael Jordan – was a name you recognized even if you didn’t follow sports.

A few things about him I did not know until yesterday:

  1. His NBA career spanned 20 years – all with the L.A. Lakers.
  2. He grew up in Italy and played on the “Cantine Riunite” youth team in the early 1990’s.
  3. He is considered one of the elite NBA players of all time; and of those only Chamberlain, Moses Malone, and now Kobe Bryant are no longer living.
  4. In 2018, he won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film (Dear Basketball) which was based on a poem he wrote when he announced his retirement.
  5. He started the Mamba Sports Academy in Southern California.

Like I said, I wasn’t familiar with his basketball prowess. Hearing about those killed – especially the young people who were aboard the helicopter – was heartbreaking. The young lives cut short. But most of all, I thought of those they left behind who began their day like any other day, not knowing they would never see their loved ones again. When accidents like this happen in the public eye it reminds all of us just how short our time on this planet can be; and while my first thought was that we should “live today like it’s our last”, the Fort Worth-Star Telegram said it best in this editorial:  A wish for Kobe Bryant’s family: They were all in a good place with nothing left unsaid.
