Dusty (aka Dusty the Kelpto Kitty) has been burglarizing his neighborhood since 2008. Among other items, Dusty has pilfered 213 dish towels, 100 hundred gloves, 73 socks, 4 pairs of underwear, a blanket, and 8 bathing suits. In 1996, a stray cat rescued each of her kittens from a burning building in Brooklyn. Scarlett (as she was named by the woman who adopted her) was severely burned in the process. All but one of her kittens survived the ordeal. Scarlett passed away in 2008. In her honor the North Shore Animal League created an award, the Scarlett Award for Animal Heroism, which is presented to animals or humans that have engaged in heroic acts.
