Genie in a Bottle
Monet, da Vinci, Pollock, O’Keeffe

Bach, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Ravel
Nureyev, Graham, Fonteyn, Tharp
Pasteur, Oppenheimer, Berg, Fouchier
Pictures are painted. Books are written.
Songs composed and dances performed.
Atoms are split, genes spliced, chemicals formed.
Masterpieces all – conceived and birthed.
Frenetic artists and feverish Frankensteins,
Driven to create outside themselves.
Destined to become immortal muses.
Because once a picture has been seen, we cannot un-see it.
Once a book or poem has been read, it cannot be un-read.
When a song has been heard, you cannot un-hear its notes.
And a ballet will inspire long after it’s danced.
And the Art of Science?
Once an atom has been split or a gene spliced,
A chemical formed or an infectious agent modified,
The secrets of the Universe have been unlocked.
And once you know something, you cannot un-know it.
And once a Jinn has been released, it cannot be put back.
