The Divine Child or The Dreamer?

June brings the start of Summer – June 20th marks the Summer Soltice. I love this time of year. The baylands here in the South Bay ensure that the air never gets too dry. In fact, today is downright muggy. The air smells delightfully damp and not in the least oppressive due to the bay breeze. During my high school years we lived in the foothills of San Jose. Summer break always smelled like garlic, the scent most likely drifting north from Gilroy. The sun is bright and the air is fragrant with star jasmine growing all over the complex. I love this time of year.

The Concrete Jungle is thriving. “Pink” (my “Pink Picotee” Datura) is blooming like crazy and I haven’t even re-potted her yet! I have always wanted a Datura/Brugmansia and I’m so glad I finally snagged one. Gorgeous flowers!!

The last few nights I’ve been having disturbing dreams. Nightmares, actually. I suppose they are a consequence of the “smallpox-laden blanket” I touched on in my last Post. Yet in spite of them I find I have a light heart upon awakening. Perhaps I am slaying dragons in my sleep. (Wait. I LOVE dragons. Slaying “Reptilians” would be more appropriate.)

I owe this lightness of being to my June Muse: The Fool.

Many correlate this card with the Joker/Trickster Archetype but not me. The Major Arcana bears a strong resemblance to “The Hero’s Journey” whereby a hero goes on an adventure, undergoes many trials and tribulations, and returns home transformed. The Fool begins our journey through the Major Arcana and remains the central character throughout. The card is numbered 0 (nothing). He can be anything he pleases – or nothing at all. The Fool is the “The Dreamer who dreams up all the other Dreamers.” The Dreamer Archetype.

New beginnings, reawakenings, joy and freedom, inspiration, unerring faith in oneself, infinite possibilities, creative energy, naivete, spontaneity, a free spirit – words one may attribute to a child. Thus, The Fool may also be aligned with the Divine Child Archetype. Indeed, the Vampyre emerging from his grave IS “newly born”. Reborn. Reawakened. A Free Spirit ready to begin a journey of self-discovery and growth. The Vampyre does not know what awaits him on this quest but he embraces it wholeheartedly for he will make of it whatever he chooses. The world is his oyster…er…chalice of blood.

The Fool is the Spirit of Aether. The word aether means “pure, fresh air” or “clear sky” and represents the celestial energy that fills the region of the universe above Earth. Aether is also referred to as quintessence (fifth element). Over the years, the term quintessence has become synonymous with elixirs, medicinal alchemy, and the philosopher’s stone. It is the element that connects us to spirit, intuition, and other realms and planes.

We just knew we were having fun.”
