Lune Noire

For those of us in North America, tonight* marks the first of an exceptionally rare occurrence of 3 consecutive Black Moons.

Our next two Black Moons will occur:

  1. March 1/2 – which coincides with Mardis Gras/Ash Wednesday
  2. March 31st – the day before April Fool’s Day

Additionally, another Black Moon will take place on April 30th – the day before Beltane, the same day on which a partial Solar Eclipse occurs. For most of the world this will be the only Black Moon of 2022.

A Black Moon is the result of the celestial mechanics and the Gregorian calendar being out of sync – a quirk of the calendar – and refers to a New Moon happening under any one of these circumstances:

  • A month in which there are 2 New Moons.
  • The 3rd New Moon in a season of 4 New Moons.
  • A month in which there is no New Moon.
  • A month in which there is no Full Moon.

*Coincidentally, tomorrow (February 1st) kicks off Chinese New Year (Year of the Tiger) and ushers in Imbolc (Feb 1/2 depending on where you live in the world). So you see, all 4 of these Black Moons have much activity around them!

All New Moons are about new beginnings and manifestation but Black Moons are said to be especially powerful – fostering luck, creativity and happiness!

There’s more Magick afoot tonight: the Dark Moon phase takes place at 9:46pm PST. Purrr-fect for spells relating to intuition, banishing, protection, cleansing, meditation, and energy work – and for invoking Hekate.

Here’s a quick protection spell using either white or black salt: Prior to using be sure to bless or consecrate your salt, then sprinkle it around the perimeter of your home and at doorways and windowsills.

I Like It Right Here ~ and I’m OK With That

I’ve been seeing the words “ascension” and “5th dimension” a lot lately. Have you? I grew up in the 60’s so my first thought was “I remember The 5th Dimension. They did ‘Up – Up and Away’.” Sadly, this is NOT what was meant.

Some sites likened it to the Biblical allusion of leaving one’s body and going to heaven (aka DYING) – with one saying only 14,000 would be allowed to ascend during this period of enlightenment. Another claimed only those who were ready to let go of the material world would be ready for the 5th dimension. Most presumed one would KNOW what they were talking about; and performing a search didn’t help at all! There were blogs that talked about self-awareness, spiritual shifting, and planes of consciousness, while a good friend of mine (and empath) felt one would lose Earthly presence but still be able to travel back and forth between realms.

Although never religious, I’ve always been SPIRITUAL so the concept of attaining a higher level of spirituality appeals to me. Still, one question was never truely addressed: To move into the 5th Dimension would you have to leave your body behind? If so, I wouldn’t like that one bit.

In other words: I Like It Right Here:

Yeah, I know there’s a lot of shite going on. Chemicals are dumped into our waterways and oceans. Pesticides and synthetic fertilizers are wreaking havoc with flora, fauna, and the soil – as are genetically-modified plants and organisms. In the U.S.A. alone hundreds of Superfund sites are still awaiting clean-up. Wildlife is still being trafficked illegally and many species are facing extinction, with human activities being the #1 trigger. The list of abuses and injuries done to Mother Earth and her inhabitants goes on and on. Note: With regard to climate change, the Psychotic Predators pushing their “New Green/Climate Change Agenda” with (more) lies and deceit can kiss my motherfucking ass. This World has more important things to worry about (Like their death and destruction.) than helping these evil individuals fatten their already-overflowing-purses.

Country prophetesses grow from the same tree as druids.
– Dandelion (The Last Wish)

I have always aligned myself with Mother Nature. (My Celtic Druid heritage only serves to confirm this.), so my soul is forever charmed by the beauty, wonders, resilience, and Magick in this world of ours…

  • In the main reactor at Chernobyl, a group of fungi are flourishing by using melanin to convert gamma radiation into living tissue, just as plants use chlorophyll to fix solar energy. [1]
  • Rhizanthella gardneri is the only member of the orchid tribe to live out its entire existence UNDERGROUND.
  • In NY City, 66,000 vacant lots and 40 of the 139 square miles of the inner city have been taken over by wild vegetation, which is in the active process of demolishing what was once the fourth largest city in the United States. [2]
  • A park in Zambia, Africa has brought the Black rhino back from the brink of extinction.
  • In 2016, a new species of octopus was discovered.

I wear my Darkness like a warm cape.
– yours truly

In addition to loving Mother Earth and my presence on her, there’s another and more significant reason I will most likely never advance to the 5th Dimension (or even the 4th). I am inexorably tied to my Shadow.

The SHADOW is a very common Archetype that reflects deeper elements of our psyche, where ‘latent dispositions’ (which are common to us all) arise. It embodies chaos and wildness of character. The Shadow thus tends not to obey rules and in doing so may discover new lands or plunge things into chaos and battle.

Carl Jung wrote:
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge, and it therefore,. as a rule, meets with considerable resistance.

The brighter the light, the darker the shadow.” – C. Jung

In other words, your Shadow self is all those traits, weaknesses, shortcomings, and urges that you are ashamed of so you try burying them down deep and hope they never bubble up to the surface. Well guess what? The more you try to suppress your Shadow the more it will manifest itself in your life. Kinda like when an individual says they will “never be like my Dad” yet when the grow up they turn out to be exactly like their Father. The more you try NOT to be, the more you WILL be.

Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual’s conscious life, the blacker and denser it is.” – C. Jung

The purpose of this Post is not to go in-depth regarding Jung’s concept of The Shadow, but if you’re interested in learning more here are a couple sites with which to get started:
Shadow Work
The Jungian Shadow

I am not a Buddha or a Jesus or even a Mother Theresa. I will never be, nor do I want to be. I am both light and dark, masculine and feminine, love and hate, good and bad, wise and foolish, divine and atrocious, Goddess and Beast. I may not verbalize my darkest impulses to others and most will never know they exist, but I always try to unearth them so I can acknowledge that they live within me. I EMBRACE those dualities. I am my Shadow. My Shadow is Me.

and I’m OK With That.

Magick.

What does the word Magick conjure up for you?

A Sorcerer summoning a demon?

Morgan la Fay weaving an enchanted robe with which to kill her half-brother, King Arthur?

Native American shamanism?

Invoking the sea gods?

A voodoo doll?

Hermione practicing her craft at Hogwarts?

But there’s more to Magick than just the supernatural stuff. Magick can be a perfect souffle or book that captures your imagination. There’s the magick of childhood – the wonder of experiencing everything for the very first time.

Magic is moments that define so much
you feel that you have no words to express the feelings.

– Shruti Ghosh

Magick is music that gives you goosebumps…

Relationships can be magickal. Sitting down to write a poem, letter, or post and having the words flow effortlessly – that’s Magick! Chrismastime, running into a childhood friend, Practical Magic AND Bell, Book and Candle (OK, both movies are about witchcraft but that doesn’t make them any less MAGICKAL.), a warm Summer night, kinetic energy created by a storm, the smell of the air after it’s rained, NATURE

For some, a forest can be a magickal place.

Others find enchantment beneath the ocean

or in a sunset.

There’s Magick in the air when the first crocuses appear

and in the transformation of caterpillar to butterfly.

The Magick of nature is all around us. In every living thing. The Magick of LIFE never ceases to amaze and humble me all at the same time.

A tomato plant growing out of a sidewalk crack.

A tiny begonia Magickally appearing out of nowhere.

Steve.

Magick is believing that anything is possible.

This Post started with one at Apartment Therapy: “Instead of a Resolution, Consider Adopting a Word of the Year.” I had several in mind but MAGICK was the word I awoke with this morning…

I grounded myself and gave thanks for all that I have and all the MAGICK in the world around me – and inside me. I asked that I embrace it, nurture it, and grow it. Now, let’s go back to the Tarot card seen at the beginning of this Post.

Before I do a read I cleanse my deck in incense smoke. Today I used Dragon’s Blood. I noticed that the card at the bottom was The Priestess. This happens from time to time, but not often, and I normally ignore it. I didn’t have any question to ask so I shuffled and cut the cards thrice like normal; however, before I had a chance to perform that third cut one card stuck up from the deck. When this occurs it’s a sign to pull that card – which is what I did. That card was The Priestess.

The Priestess is the Planetary Trump of the Moon and is the Number 2 card in the Major Arcana. Major Arcana (Trump cards) represent life lessons, karmic influences, and archetypal energies that are affecting you right now. The Number 2 symbolizes duality, balance, and wisdom; and in Numerology it represents a supremely feminine force with the strongest intuition.

The Vampyre Priestess wears a silver headpiece adorned with the sign of the Triple Goddess: the three phases of the Moon. The quiver of arrows at her back links her to the Roman Goddess Diana, patroness of hunters, crossroads, the underworld, and the Moon. Diana is also considered an aspect of the Triple Goddess. At the Vampyress’ neck is a black lace choker studded with one black stone. Her pale dress is patterned with images of NATURE: Birds, snakes, flowers, and butterflies. Except for her blood-red lips, she is void of color. Black is her hair, eyes, fingernails, the ribbon embellishing her gown, and the coiled serpent armpiece. A lit black candle rests beside her while a black book (dripping with blood) levitates before her, its pages waiting to be filled.

Divine Feminine. Occult talents. Seduction and mystery. Arcane knowledge. Independence. Shamanistic journeys. Psychic power. Dreams and the unconscious.

The Priestess (feminine) balances The Magician (male). Together they represent Yin-Yang: The seemingly opposite forces that are complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another. She is both physically and mentally in tune with the natural world as well as the spiritual world, and is the conduit between the mundane and the sacred.

It is not possible to kindle fresh fires from burned-out embers.
– Ruth Sawyer

Although the lady has been bitten by a Vampyre the blood on her dress is not hers. She’s managed to escape to this beautiful garden sanctuary. Note the position of the woman’s body mirrors that of the angelic statue she stops at, their hands meeting in prayer. The statue acts as her Guardian Angel, which in turn represents her connection to the Divine. She takes a breath and quiets her thoughts. Her action parallels the symbolism of the murdered crow, which is the suit’s Totem Animal. This moment of respite will afford the young lady the time she needs to reflect and regroup.

The 4 of Knives (Swords) is Lord of Rest from Strife and is ruled by Jupiter (expansion) in Libra (balance). All the fours represent structure and stability. The suit of Knives (Swords) relate to mental activity, the intellect, rational thinking, and communication; astrologically, they are connected to the Air signs: Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.

Essence: Stilling turbulent thoughts and clearing our minds. Healing and recuperation. Gathering inner resources. Moment of repose. Sweeping away distractions. Getting our bearings after a time of stress. Allowing our higher self to work on our behalf.
