Must be the season of the Witch*

Being an Empath means more than just being empathetic. An Empath is someone who is highly attuned to the energy and emotions around them, whether that energy is coming from individuals, groups, or even physical spaces. I would add energy emanting from other living things such as animals and plants. Since there are varying degrees of sensitivity, I suspect that many people may be an Empath and don’t even know it. (Do you find yourself absolutely DRAINED after being surrounded by large groups of people for a long time – such as at a concert? If so, you’re probably an Empath.)

I’m currently reading The Secret Life of Water by Masaru Emoto (Hidden Messages in Water). In the book Emoto discusses Hado: The intrinsic vibrational pattern at the atomic level in all matter. Everything around us has its own unique vibration – even water, soil, and rocks. Sounds. Voices. Humans. Animals. Plants. The Earth Herself generates vibrations, as do crystals. This is something I’ve always instinctively known to be true, even as a child.

I’ve also been noticing a resurging interest in the metaphysical world. Many books I want to read I find are already checked out at the library. The owner of the metaphysical shop I frequent in Boulder Creek also remarked that she’s seen a marked increase in both customers and sales these past two years. Even Whole Foods is selling books on crystals and small gift boxes of crystal sets – something I’ve never seen before in all the years we’ve been going there. In light of the current war being waged between light and dark, with the prize being the soul of our planet, this does not surprise me.

So what does all this have to do with Witches? So glad you asked. Having the ability to FEEL everything around you and comprehending the all-encompassing, electric energy of it is to acknowlege the Divine Feminine within you. For She is everywhere.

Witchcraft was hung, in History,
But History and I
Find all the Witchcraft that we need
Around us, every Day.

Did you know that at one time a woman who could read was labeled a witch? Or that long hair was considered a source of power for a woman – especially if she allowed her tresses to cascade naturally? (Which is why their hair was shorn before they were executed/burned/hanged.) It was not so long ago that married women were not legally allowed to own property. Single women could, but married women were little but chattle. In fact, it wasn’t until the 1970s that women were able to get a credit card WITHOUT their husband’s signature. (I remember this one occasion when I wanted to join a gym. This gym was part of a very large chain. Before I was allowed to join, I was informed that my then-husband was required to co-sign for me. Mind you, I had a well-paying job and good credit and considered myself to be an independent woman. Needless to say, I told them to stuff it.)

Spells are just prayers with more steps and a name that scares people.
– Lily Anderson

Back in December of 2020 I wrote about the end of the 200-year era of Juputer and Saturn uniting in Earth signs. Which not only explains humankind’s obsession with material things, conquering land/people, and greed but also the oppressive, negative energies and their stranglehold on Life. This destructive force is intrinsically masculine in nature. But it is being threatened by the dawning of a new age being ushered in by the Divine Feminine. Why do you think there’s such a push right now to promote transgenderism and pervert the feminine spirit? (Such debasement serves neither gender – it mocks both male and female.) Many know something’s not quite right. War. Famine. Greed. Genocide. Eugenics. Organized Religions. Western medicine. Governments. World leaders. The list goes on. They have failed all Life on this Planet. Indeed, their goal is to destroy it. Frightened men are dangerous and there are many men (and women) who are scared to death right now; scared of losing their power and control. This world is too beautiful and Life on it too precious to allow it to be destroyed. What’s drawing “sensitive souls” into the magickal world is a passion to fight against this Great Evil.

Magick is what happens when the blueprint of who you are comes into the alignment with the expanding energy of the universe.

Halloween may be the “season of the Witch” but I think the next few years will prove to be the TIME of the Witch.

* Donovan (“Season of the Witch”)

80’s Blast (Halloween edition)::Looks That Kill ⛧

© Spotify

There are music channels all over the place that play “Halloween” music during the month of October. Most of the tracks are the same-old-same-old, and many are favorites of mine like: “Werewolves of London”, “Monster Mash”, “Godzilla”, “The Purple People Eater”, “Witchy Woman”, with a special mention going to Donovan’s “Season of the Witch”. But NONE feature songs entirely from the 1980s.

I’m about to remedy that, but before we sink our fangs in there’s one thing I forgot to mention. Not only do the songs in my 80’s Blast (Halloween edition) have to be written/released in the 1980s, they also had to have a companion video BECAUSE although the lyrics may not convey “Halloween”, the video might. (Let’s face it, due to the rise of MTV the 80s was all about music videos.) So…let’s DO THIS!

Seeing that Mötley Crüe is my favorite band EVER I bet you all were wondering why I haven’t done one Post on them. (Actually, I did a short one back in 2019.) Answer: I didn’t want to be that predictable – plus I wanted to savor this moment.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve see the Crüe live. One memorable show was at De Anza College’s ampitheater. It was very intimate and we were seven rows from the stage. Nikki was interviewed that morning on one of the local stations and said that everyone attending that night was not only going to be allowed to bring in recording/video equipment but were ENCOURAGED to do so. (The band was battling with their record company at the time, but shortly thereafter Mötley Crüe would become the proud owner of their music. 🤘)

But I’ll never forget the first time I saw them live. Sacramento on the Shout at the Devil tour. (The best album. Ever. By anyone.) Coincidentally, the first time I the band was on MTV in the video for “Looks That Kill”. I was hooked.

Third track on Shout at the Devil (1983).
Released as a single later that same year.

Now, listen up
She’s a razor sharp
If she don’t get her way
She’ll slice you apart

Now she’s a cool, cool black
She moves like a cat
If you don’t get her game
Well, you might not make it back

She’s got the looks that kill
That kill
She got the looks that kill
That kill
She’s got the look

She’s got looks that kill
She’s got looks that kill

Now she’s bulletproof
She keeps her motor clean
And believe me, you
She’s a number thirteen

The church strikes midnight
She’s lookin’ louder and louder
She’s gonna turn on your juice, boy
Oh, then she turns on the power

She’s got the looks that kill
That kill
She got the looks that kill
That kill
She’s got the look

She’s got looks that kill
She’s got looks that kill

She’s got looks that kill
She’s got the look

Now, listen up
She’s a razor sharp
If she don’t get her way
She’ll slice you apart

Now she’s a cool, cool black
Move like a cat
If you don’t get her game
You might not make it back

She’s got the looks that kill
That kill
She got the looks that kill
That kill
She’s got the look

She’s got looks that kill
She’s got looks that kill

She’s got looks that kill
She’s got looks that kill

She’s got looks that kill
She’s got looks that kill

She’s got looks that kill
She’s got looks that kill

She’s got looks that kill
She’s got looks that kill

I almost used “Shout at the Devil” here, but since an original music video was never made of it I said “Fuck it. I’m saving the best for last.” (My Post. My site. My rülz!)

80’s Blast (Halloween edition)::Gonna Get Close to You 🧛‍♂️

There are music channels all over the place that play “Halloween” music during the month of October. (Let’s face it, due to the rise of MTV the 80s was all about music videos.) So…let’s DO THIS!

Originally written/recorded by a group named Dalbello, “Gonna Get Close to You” is the fourth track on Rage for Order and the first single off that album. (BTW, Dalbello’s version is ANEMIC by comparison.)

I saw Queensrÿche in 2016 at Rockbar Theater and was so disappointed they didn’t include the song in their set list. My guess was there’s a copyright dispute which has prevented Queensrÿche from performing it live. (The band has been mired in copyright conflicts, although most have been with former singer, Geoff Tate.)

The accompanying video has always been one of my all-time favorites and I’m delighted to be able to share it!

I like to look at shadows sweating on the wall
I get excited when I hear your footsteps in the hall
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Ooh, outside your balcony, I have a room with a view
And I’m watching you
I dial your telephone each and every afternoon

I wait by your door till you’re asleep at night
And when you’re alone I know when you turn out the light
(Turn out the light)
I’m gonna get close to you
Oh oh, so close to you
I’m gonna get close to you
I’m gonna get close

You fumble for your keys, I’m six or seven steps behind you
I’m so close to you
Are you terrified of me? What do I know about you?
How did I find out?

You think I’m a fool or maybe some kind of lunatic
You say I’m wasting my time
But I know what to do with it
It’s as plain as black and white

I’m gonna get close to you
Oh oh, so close to you
I’m gonna get close to you
Oh, so close

If you knew my infinite charm
Oh oh, there’d be no reason to be so alarmed

Maybe I’m wrong, maybe I’m right
Maybe I’m some kind of lunatic
You say I’m wasting all my time
But I know what to do with it
It is plain as black and white

Metaphysical Index::Tourmaline

Tourmaline is found all over the world. Its name comes from the Sinhalese word turamali (“a mixed color precious stone”). Indeed, this stone comes in every color that can be found on the rainbow and each color resonates with a different chakra.

Watermelon tourmaline (Heart chakra) – Known as “the gateway to the inner self”, this crystal is found in Africa and Brazil. Properties include: Balance (male/female energies), clarity, removes insecurities, and strengthens friendships. It is known to boost the immune system, helps calm hyperactivity, and can be beneficial for those with heart disorders. Astrologically connected to Gemini & Virgo.

Rainbow tourmaline (all chakras) – Formed when a combination of tourmaline colors is created and can be found worldwide. Properties include: Clear and align chakras. Once referred to as a “Ceylonese magnet” for its electrical properties. Astrologically connected to Libra.

Red tourmaline (Root & Heart chakras) – The majority come from Brazil, Africa, and the USA. Properties include: Promotes tactfulness, flexibility, sociability and extroversion; helps with physical energy levels. Stimulates blood circulation. Astrologically connected to Sagittarius & Scorpio.

Blue tourmaline (Throat & Third Eye chakras) – Usually found in the USA, Africa, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Brazil. This particular crystal is rare compared to other kinds of tourmaline. Properties include: Truthfulness/honesty, stimulates clarity of self-expression, and increases communication ability. Helpful with migraines and headaches. Astrologically connected to Libra & Taurus.

Brown (Root chakra) – Also known as Dravite, it’s found in Brazil, Austria, Slovenia, and Australia. Dravite has a strong connection to the Earth. Properties include: Grounding, emotional healing, heals dysfunctional family relationships and strengthens empathy. It has been used to stimulate the growth of plants. Astrologically connected to Aries.

Aids in problems surrounding the stomach, liver, spleen, kidneys and gall bladder. Astrologically connected to Leo.

Pink (Heart & Root chakras) – Pink tourmaline can be found around the world. Properties include: Promotes happiness, love, joy, and peace; relieves stress, depression, and anxiety. Helps calm and soothe the heart, assisting with angina, irregular heartbeat and recovery from heart attack. Astrologically connected to Libra.

Orange (Sacral chakra) – Found around the world, its properties include: Increases a person’s drive, balances emotions & (sexual) desire. Related to intestine and reproductive problems. Astrologically connected to Leo & Scorpio.

Black Tourmaline
(Root chakra)

Today the majority of black tourmaline production occurs in Brazil and the USA, but it can also be found in Afghanistan, India, Indonesia, Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the United Kingdom.

Black tourmaline offers protection from the electromagnetic frequencies (EMF) that are emitted from cell phones, computers and other electronic devices – absorbing toxic electromagnetic radiation before it reaches the body. Place a piece near your charging station(s), especially those in the bedroom. (We have one in each of the bedrooms.)

It protects the emotions of sensitive people and prevents empaths from becoming overwhelmed by the energy of others. Known as the “Stone of Purification” many energy healers claim it is the best protection stone around! To guard against outside negative energies, place a piece in the window of the room you’d like to protect. Wear black tourmaline jewelry for spiritual protection. Black tourmaline benefits anyone who feels encumbered by negative thoughts. The crystal can absorb the negativity for you, emitting positive vibrations back.

Physically, black tourmaline strengthens, protects, and rejuvenates. The stone can enhance our immune system and cleanse toxins from the body, along with boosting energy. Astrologically connected to Capricorn.
