Panthera celebrates Int’l Astrology Day!

In honor of International Astrology Day tomorrow, Panthera came up with a fun way to highlight their efforts to protect wild cats AND have a little fun with the twelve signs of the Zodiac.

Imagine my joy seeing that they chose my favorite wild cat

We’re losing the battle

Last month we celebrated the 10th Annual Global Tiger Day. Today it appears we are losing the battle trying to save another big cat.

Today is World Lion Day and these regal cats are on the brink of extinction. Just 100 years ago, over 200,000 lions existed in the wilds of Africa. Today it’s estimated only 20,000 remain. What’s worse, over the course of the last century 43% of the lion population declined during the past two decades. 77,400 lions GONE in the span of 20 years. That’s 3,870 per year which means these cats could be EXTINCT in 5 years!  Click here to learn more about the efforts being taken to save the African lion.

Panthera’s team of big cat experts has answered some of your most frequently asked questions about lion behavior, conservation and culture.

Panthera is a non-profit organization whose efforts are focused on protecting and conserving the world’s largest felines (Creatures which are particularly dear to my heart.) around the world.

“Panthera is the only organization in the world devoted exclusively to the conservation of the world’s wild cats. Our team of leading biologists and law enforcement experts develop innovative strategies to address the dire threats facing cheetahs, jaguars, leopards, lions, pumas, snow leopards, and tigers.

We are on the front lines, fighting to stop poaching, prevent conflict with people, conserve wild cat habitats, and reduce unsustainable legal hunting. These proven strategies don’t just protect wild cats—they also protect their vast landscapes and the endless variety of life within them. These wild places are crucial to our planet’s health—and our own.”
